![]() ![]() ![]() This is the case in Windows Photo Viewer. If you open an animated GIF in an image viewer that supports GIF but not animation, you'll see only the first frame. A GIF viewer is not required to implement support for animations. Animation support was added later as an OPTIONAL extension. GIF is primarily a still image format, introduced by CompuServe in 1987.
